#5 Movie Review: Alien: Covenant (2017)

Such a big Alien/Aliens fan, and was soooo looking forward to this, after reading/hearing what Ridley Scott was attempting to do, so enough about that lets get into the synopsis of the movie and what we are in for…

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

The Cast ( I will just point out the main characters of the movie, if you like to see the full cast click here)

  • Michael Fassbender as David / Walter
  • Katherine Waterston as Daniels
  • Billy Crudup as Oram
  • Danny McBride as Tennessee
  • Demián Bichir as Lope
  • Carmen Ejogo as Karine

So here we go! My quick review be warned SPOILERS!…

I was one of those people who was really let down by Prometheus (2012). I liked what Prometheus was TRYING to do, I loved the mythology are TRYING to setup but they failed, HOWEVER Alien: Covenant (2017) pickup on and completed what Ridley Scott was attempting to do.

Personally for me the first act of the movie was a bit slow for my liking, the build up, getting to know the crew, however you see James Franco (uncredited appearance) when watching the prologue scene with James Franco, didn’t know what his role was …. But we do NOW, he was the first person to DIE!!

The second and third act was brilliantly done it had a mixture of both Alien and Aliens movies, being a 15 (BBFC rating) I must say the death scenes were BRUTAL (but enjoyable). There is plenty to admire in this movie firstly the sound design is masterful, the deadly silence on this petrified planet crackles with icy dread.

Fassbender’s performance is eye catching (when is he not!) his performance is a standout, which effortlessly delineates between the two identical androids.
If you enjoy the Alien movies I would high recommend this!

Overall 4.5/5
